LNY provides management, governance, and instructional technical assistance and training to a NY network of volunteer-based literacy organizations.
For nearly 40 years, Literacy New York (LNY) has provided volunteer-based literacy organizations the tools they need to develop management, governance, and instructional capacity. LNY’s goal is to ensure that programs implement sound volunteer and financial management practices, and provide quality instruction that will offer learners, tutors, and instructors the greatest chance for success.
LNY complies with the rigorous requirements of the National Reporting System (NRS), a federal standard of program benchmarks that centers on adult learners’ educational and employment gains. LNY is the only statewide volunteer-based literacy network in the nation to adhere to NRS standards, and LNY affiliates meet and exceed targets each program year. LNY’s adherence to these standards enhances the quality and consistency of the instruction offered to adult learners in our programs.
Literacy New York’s management, governance, and program development assistance is delivered through a professional staff development and volunteer-based services model. This research-based model was developed by state and national experts and enhanced by LNY’s continuous program improvement operation. As a statewide network serving 55 New York counties, LNY is in a unique position to access resources and partner with a range of community, state and national partners to deliver comprehensive adult literacy services.
