Strategic Plan and Directions

Vision: Every New Yorker is Literate

Mission: To establish and support adult literacy services in communities across
New York State.

Our Guiding Principles and Core Values

We believe that:

  • Everyone has the capability to learn.
  • Our statewide network of dedicated volunteers is the lifeblood of our work.
  • Providing hope, making a difference—one person at a time—is the basis of what we do.
  • Our work will be accomplished in a respectful, non-discriminatory and confidential manner.
  • Our programs and services should be innovative and cutting edge.
  • The mutual process of teaching and learning is strengthened by the passion for literacy; the joy of reading.

Grand Strategies

  1. Assure LNY related literacy services in every county of New York State by 2012.
  2. Create a network-supporting strategic reserve fund by 2008.
  3. Develop and implement a more efficient, consistent and accountable service delivery system.
  4. Implement a consistent ROI outcome-based reporting system.
