Since 1977, Literacy New York (LNY) has been a leading advocate for adult literacy in New York State and nationally. Literacy New York provides technical, program, and training assistance and workshops to a network of 41 local, community-based affiliates who annually provide over 400,000 hours of reading and basic skills instruction to adult learners. Literacy New York works with students at the very lowest literacy levels. Last year, more than 6,500 volunteer tutors provided Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other languages tutoring to over 5,800 learners.

Literacy New York offers workshops, training and technical assistance services, and resources, including:

• Board Development – Board Workshops/Forums, Summer Training Institute – Board Development Day, Individual Consultations

• Organizational Development – 50/50 Management Workshops, ProLiteracy Accreditation, Data Collection/ National Reporting System, Support and Training for ALIES Database

• Capacity Issues – Learning Disabilities, Bridges to Practice, Combined Basic Literacy/ESOL Training, Educational Technology

• Advocacy – Training-Communication-Leadership Development with Affiliate Network, Resources and Information on NYS and Federal Funding and State Regulatory Changes, March Advocacy Event in Albany

• Publications - Resource Development News, Literacy Practitioner Newsletter/Journal, Literacy Letter, ALIES Data Entry Workbook, Students Working for Literacy
